How do I change my Privacy Settings?
There are a few features in Foom which let you improve your browsing experience by connecting to a web service. Most of these are off by default.
Manage Privacy and Security settings
To manage your privacy and security settings:
Launch Foom and open the Menu.
Navigate to Settings → Privacy and Security.
Choose from the list of Privacy and security settings.
Privacy and Security settings you can control:
When typing search terms in the address bar, your default search engine may offer suggestions to complete your query. As you type, text can be sent to your search engine so suggestions can be shown.
Please see the detailed WebRTC section below for policy options and behavior details.
This anonymous information helps estimate usage of certain features and does not collect your IP address.
This private daily ping helps estimate active users without collecting personal browsing information.
Allows the browser to send and display push notifications.
Allows the browser to send crash and performance report data for review and product improvements.
Remove history, cookies, cache, and other browsing data either from recent sessions or all time.
Manage how sites store cookies and related local site data while browsing.
Manage Security keys, site certificates, and enable/disable Safe Browsing.
Note on Safe Browsing: Foom can alert you when you try to visit a site that may harm your computer through phishing, malware, or other nefarious activity. This involves downloading lists of potentially malicious sites, but it does not reveal which sites you visit or any personal browsing information.
Additionally, instead of connecting to Google, Foom’s version of Safe Browsing connects to a Foom-run server that does not keep logs or store your IP address. This is an important safety feature, so it is on by default, but you can turn it off.
Adjust permissions, shields behavior, and content preferences for individual sites you visit.
WebRTC IP Handling Policy
WebRTC is a web feature that lets you make calls or video chats in your browser. Because WebRTC connects directly to the people you are chatting with, it can reveal your IP address to them. Foom has an advanced option to change the exact details of this behavior.
Policies:
- Default: Unless you are in a Tor tab, WebRTC has the right to enumerate all interfaces and bind them to discover public interfaces.
- Default Public And Private Interfaces: WebRTC should only use the default route used by http. This also exposes the associated default private address. Default route is the route chosen by the OS on a multi-homed endpoint.
- Default Public Interface Only: WebRTC should only use the default route used by http. This does not expose any local addresses.
- Disable Non-Proxied UDP: WebRTC should only use TCP to contact peers or servers unless the proxy server supports UDP. This does not expose any local addresses either.
Disabling Global Privacy Control
To toggle Global Privacy Control (GPC) on desktop and Android, go to foom://flags/#foom-global-privacy-control-enabled. GPC is enabled by default on Desktop and Android.
On iOS, GPC is only enabled via the JavaScript API but not the HTTP header because of platform limitations that could cause website breakage. You can disable the JavaScript API in Settings under Foom Shields and Privacy.
